and The mystic Nomads

About Nasambu

"This is a whole new sound. It is unique and it’s wonderful."  ~HipHopAfrican

Nasambu Barasa, (Kenya/USA) Afro-Soul/R&B Singer-songwriter, producer and founder of the international band, The Mystic Nomads, has captivated audiences on 3 continents with her unique style, a fusion of Jazz, Soul, Pop, Latin, and African rhythms that is deeply rooted in her spirituality as a mystic. Nasambu seamlessly vocalizes her poetry in the languages of English, Swahili, Luhya, Spanish and French. Stylistically she pens soul-stirring lyrics to reflect the realities of today's mystic nomads living in a global village.

The latest album, Activate Afrika, was recorded live in Los Angeles with The Mystic Nomads band, and released in the summer of 2012. The project was fully written and produced by Nasambu and presents a new wave of fresh creations and visions, featuring some of the top African, Jazz and Latin musicians in Los Angeles.

Nasambu's original music has been featured in soundtracks for several films and documentaries, as well as TV episodes on various stations, including The Africa Channel.  Nasambu has also toured and performed at numerous festivals, universities, museums and performance halls throughout the United States, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, and across Europe, and has sung alongside artists such as Grammy-nominated Rocky Dawuni of Ghana, Warrior King of Jamaica, and the legendary Bobby McFerrin of the United States.

Throughout her journey, Nasambu has witnessed how Soul Music continually transcends the divisions of language, tribe, and creed to commune directly with the hearts of audiences around the world. "Music is one of the most powerful and unifying aspects of the human experience, voices Nasambu, "It speaks the universal language of the spirit."

Nasambu was added to the WAALM Wall of Fame in the United Kingdom for her 2014 single, Madiba, which was composed and recorded in Nairobi with the Kenyan branch of The Mystic Nomads band for UN International Day of Nelson Mandela.  The song was commissioned by World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media (UK) with lyrics by Dr. Mosi Dorbayani.

While on tour with the Acoustic Soul Stories project in 2014, Nasambu was awarded recognition by Dr. Robert Garcia, Mayor of Long Beach, CA for, "distinguished service toward cultural awareness and for spreading peace and unity through the harmony of music."
A naturalista as well as an artist, Nasambu combines tools for healing from numerous global traditions to assist others in uncovering their inner elixir of health, balance, and vitality.
